Trial 3 - Testing your Predictions

  1. With your back to the motion sensor, reproduce your Prediction I drawing of a distance-time graph from Trial 2 by walking forward and backwards over a 4 meter track in a 60 second period of time. Refer to Technical Hints to record a series of measurements. Repeat until you capture the desired graph. Save the graph. Refer to Technical Hints to save a graph.

  2. How did the actual motions compare to your predictions? Explain any differences.

  3. With your back to the motion sensor, reproduce your Prediction II drawing of a distance-time graph from Trial 2 by walking quickly forward for the first half of the track and then slowly for the second half. Refer to Technical Hints to record a series of measurements. Repeat until you capture the desired graph. Save the graph. Refer to Technical Hints to save a graph.

  4. How did the actual motions compare to your predictions? Explain any differences.

  5. With your back to the motion sensor, reproduce your Prediction III drawing of a distance-time graph from Trial 2 by walking forwards for 20 seconds, stopping for 20 seconds, and continuing forwards for another 20 seconds on a 4 meter track. Refer to Technical Hints to see how to sketch a graph.

Refer to Technical Hints to record a series of measurements. Repeat until you capture the desired graph. Save the graph. Refer to Technical Hints to save a graph.

  6. How did the actual motions compare to your predictions? Explain any differences.

  7. With your back to the motion sensor, reproduce your Prediction IV drawing of a distance-time graph from Trial 2 by walking backwards 2 meters down the 4 meter track instead of at the beginning of the track. After 10 seconds they stop 1 meter from the start of the track for 40 seconds, then walk back to the 2 meter mark in the last ten seconds. The elapsed time of the total motion should be 60 seconds.Refer to Technical Hints to see how to sketch a graph.

Refer to Technical Hints to record a series of measurements. Repeat until you capture the desired graph. Save the graph. Refer to Technical Hints to save a graph.

  8. How did the actual motions of the graphs you created with the motion sensor compare to your predictions? Explain any differences.
