Further Investigations

  • Measure the air pressure in a soy sauce bottle while you are pouring soy sauce (or water) out of it. What does the air pressure versus time graph look like? Why do you think a soy sauce bottle has a specially designed cap?

  • Why do full bottles 'glug' when you pour them (milk jugs, soda bottles, etc.)? Measure the air pressure in a bottle as you are pouring it. Use your measurements to explain your answer.

  • Why does a door sometimes slam shut when a breeze occurs? Can you come up with a way to figure out if this has something to do with air pressure?
